As contemporary as it might seem, MATERIEL has a rich heritage that begins in 1949 as Georgia’s first fashion house.
N ow helmed by artistic director Tiko Paksashvili, the label’s Georgian history and identity are still central to its DNA. Inspiration is found everywhere from the optimism of the local people to the geometric cityscape of Tbilisi, where the brand was founded and still resides today.
Keeping that proud cultural heart beating of course though, is the team of Georgian designers who fuse their personal stories and time-honoured techniques with modernity to create a uniform for the modern woman. But this woman isn’t just Georgian, no, the label’s international presence has positioned it as the go-to brand for sophisticated yet relevant pieces for women across the world.
"If you’re looking to bring a unique sense of confidence to the every day, then MATERIEL is the place to find it."
Women are central to Paksashvili’s vision. His designs celebrate strong confident women, regardless of age, lifestyle or beliefs and that translates through a striking sartorial offering. The label’s built a dedicated following for its tailoring which uses asymmetry to update classic cuts and drapery to soften sharp silhouettes with a touch of femininity.
The label’s acute attention to detail and couture-level craftsmanship - spotlighted through innovative fabric manipulation - is matched by its dedication to sustainable manufacturing. From samples to production, the whole design process happens in its Tbilisi-based factory using a large proportion of recycled fabrics. Offcuts are then upcycled or donated to local businesses.
If you’re looking to bring a unique sense of confidence to the every day, then MATERIEL is the place to find it.
